Team Moana Hangi

Kia ora,
Yesterday we were writing the steps for the preparation of the hangi hole because we are having an end of year hangi. Once we wrote down the steps on how to prepare the hole we got to choose to make a movie, animation or slide show. Our group of 3 chose to make a movie on how to prepare the hole. I found it easy writing down the steps on how to prepare the hangi hole and I found it difficult to find the right area to make the movie. The learning behind this task was to learn how to prepare the hole for our hangi.

Here are my 6 Steps:

The Preparation of the Hole:

1. Find an appropriate clear piece of land to dig the hole.

2. Clear the loose shrubs, leaves, grass, branches and other loose materials from the area.

3. Water the ground surrounding just in case anything catches fire.

4. Measure the appropriate area to dig. Use the cooking baskets as an guide. Give a little extra space around the edge of the basket. - 30 cm  

5. Get a spade and start digging. Your hole needs to be deep enough to allow for the height of the baskets plus the wood, rocks and irons on which the baskets will sit.

1. Gather the wood and prepare inside the hole.

Christmas Decorations

Kia Ora everyone,

Today and yesterday we made Christmas decorations. I made a Santa sleigh with an elf, two reindeer and two candy canes. First, I got half a toilet role and put green fabric around it. I got some googly eyes and stuck them on then I got pipe cleaners and made the hat. Then, I got a paper towel roll and cut it in half and painted it red. While it was drying I got lots of pipe cleaners and twirled them together. After that, I got two toilet rolls and cut them so they had horns and then stuck googly eyes and pom poms for the nose. We are making these to sell at Whanau evening, I hope mine sells from $4 - $7. I really enjoyed seeing everything come together, It was hard making the elf.

Essential Practise Term 4

Kiaora everyone,
For the last couple days, we have been practising the essential lists so we are ready to do the spelling test tomorrow. First, we had to pick out ten words. After that, we had to write the root word, how many syllables and to make sure it had and a complex or compound sentence that used that word. We had to do it for essential list 6, 7, 8. It was enjoyable picking out the words, and tough writing a complex sentences. The learning behind this task was to learn how to spell some of the words in list 6, 7 and 8.

Margaret Peters Spelling Test

Kia ora everyone

Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored  37/67 which gives me a spelling age of 10.5

At the beginning of the year, I scored 35/67 and had a spelling age of 9.8.

So, I improved my spelling age by 7 months of age.

I think I got this result because I was in a better, happier head space which made me do better.

Sam's Hot Air Escape 2019

Kia Ora everyone,
For the last couple days we have been doing experiments with yeast, sugar, and hot water to see if it will blow up a balloon. First, we had to write a brainstorm about how we would get off the island with those ingredients. After that, we had to write a predictions of what is going to happen. Next, we had to write the observations about how it smelt tasted looks sounded Felt. After that, we had to write the conclusion. Next, I had to write a big question mine was if we triple all the ingredients and finally the creative writing about how I would escape. I was fun writing the creative writing and it was tricky thinking of the big question. The learning behind this task was to see what would happen if we added yeast, sugar, and hot water.

Greats and Grands 2019

Kia Ora everyone,
For the past couple weeks, the whole class has been writing snippets of something to do with our grandparents for Greats and Grands day. First, we had to write a moment in time with our grandparents. Next, we had to write a description about our grandparents and put it into sentences. After that, we had to write your favourite meal that they have cooked. Next, we had to write a recipe for three minute fudge. It was really fun writing the favourite meal because I made it into a rap. It was tricky writing the description because it was hard finding the words to describe our grandparents. The learning behind this task was to write a moment in time, a best meal and a description about our grandparents.
